When you combine the blues voice of James Loveless with guitar virtuoso Uffe Steen and let Morten Brauer and Claus Daugaard lay down a solid foundation of bass and drums, not much can go wrong. The four musicians of Shades of Blue have over the last 25 years placed themselves in their very own category where blues with nerve and authenticity is the name of the game. Drawing inspiration from Muddy Waters, Leadbelly, and Howling Wolf, there are strong authentic vibes in James Loveless' renditions. These include the classic repertoire or the band's own material such as the autobiographic 'I'm Gonna Cut My Hair and Get a Job'. Sometimes, one can't help but get excited over Uffe Steen's excellent guitar work. He effortlessly makes his instrument sing, cry, and laugh while he dishes out captivating riffs. The foundation is laid by Morten Brauner's solid bass style, with room for a solo every now and then, and Claus Daugaard, who maintains the swing. They've become a jazz festival tradition. Therefore, once more: Shades of Blue, this time as an evening concert.
