Jazz pianist substitutes London with Aarhus. Jens Klüver, former bandleader of Klüvers Big Band for 35 years, is once again active as a musician and regularly performs with his own bands, as a guest conductor, and as a featured soloist with big bands in Denmark. He has a knack for spotting new professional musicians, such as Miriam Mandipira, a permanent addition to many of Klüver's bands, and now Esben Tjalve, who will be introduced to the Aarhus audience. Esben Tjalve, jazz pianist and composer, recently moved to Aarhus after having lived in London for 16 years. During his London years, he composed music for the BBC, Universal, and EMI, and was active on the English jazz scene with bands such as Henrik Jensen Followed by Thirteen, James Allsopp, Rory Simmons (Jamie Cullum), and singers such as Cecilia Stalin and Kristina Train (singer on Herbie Hancock's Imagine project). Esben Tjalve recently recorded with his band Red Kite alongside musicians from several European countries. The record will be released shortly before Aarhus Jazz Festival. Bass player and composer Torben Bjørnskov plays roughly 100-150 concerts a year and has toured Denmark, several parts of Europe, Mexico, Canda, and the USA, and has collaborated with musicians from Norway, Sweden, England, Germany, Switzerland, Africa, and the USA. The gigs have taken place in small venues as well as larger ones, such as North Sea Jazz Festival and Royal Festival Hall, London. Torben Bjørnskov is an assistant professor at the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus / Aalborg.
