Jakob Bangsø (g)

A concert with music by Bach and contemporary composers

Guitarist Jakob Bangsø made his debut in 2016 from the soloist class at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus / Aalborg.

He has won several top awards in international guitar contests including first prize at the Berlin International Guitar Competition, Concours International de Guitare d’Anthony, and International Guitar Competition Nordhorn. Additionally, he has received a number of honorary awards and grants.

Jacob Bangsø has performed in Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, France, Estonia, and Canada. As a soloist, he has performed with bands and chamber ensembles such as Aarhus Symfoniorkester, Aalborg Symfoniorkester, DiamantEnsemblet, Camerata Lutécia, Pärnu City Orchestra, and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.

In 2017, he performed as a soloist at the premiere of Wayne Siegel's guitar concert Chaconne in The Black Diamond and, in 2018, the premiere of the Greek-Canadian composer Constantine Caravassilis' guitar concert - written and dedicated to Jakob Bangsø - as a recurring soloist with the Estonian Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and conductor Kaisa Roose.

For many years, Jakob Bangsø has worked with several composers in Denmark and abroad on new music for his instrument. His most recent solo record Connect (2018) includes five recording of new pieces for the guitar and electronics by Tine Surel Lange, Andreja Andric, Klavs Kehlet Hansen, Wayne Siegel, and Kaj Duncan David.

At the concert, Jakob Bangsø will be performing music by J. S. Bach (excerpts from the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988) as well as solo pieces by three contemporary composers: Andreja Andric (RS), Constantine Caravassilis (GR / CA), and Kaj Duncan David (DK / UK).

The House is a new festival in Aarhus that takes place in an old, rustical workshop that used to be a smithy in the town’s gasworks. Here, there will be a lineup of musicians who have been featured based on their musical ideas and accomplishments rather than their genre. Some of the tunes will be composed and others improvised. The idea is to allow genres and art forms to inspire each other.
