Versatile and award-winning saxophonist in good jazz company

As the grandchild of composer Herman D. Koppel and son of composer and musician Anders Koppel, Benjamin Koppel is a Danish saxophonist with a rich musical heritage.

As a 15-year-old, he co-founded the soul / rock band Tournesould and also formed his own jazz quartet, which released its debut album Benjamin Koppel Quartet in 1993. In 1992, he was the first jazz musician to receive the Jacob Gade foundation award.

He studied with the Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera in New York and co-founded the crossover-band Mad Cows Sing in 1995, who left their mark on the Danish and international music scenes with four classical and three rhythmic musicians.

In 1997, he played at the premiere of Anders Koppel's saxophone concert no. 1 and, in 2004, saxophone concert no.2. In May 2015, the third CD with Koppel as a soloist with the symphony orchestra, Double Triple Koppel (Dacapo Records), appeared, for which Koppel played with Michala Petri and Odense Symfoniorkester.

On this evening, he will be leading a quartet with Mark Chemnitz (piano and vocal), Henrik Møller (bass), and Morten Lund (drums).
