Maria Montell with famous hits and songs from her new album

Maria Montell, who made her commercial breakthrough in 1996 with the song about the provincial girl who sang didadi-didadi, recently released her eighth solo album Soy Maria.

I many ways, the new album marks a musical turning point for the singer, as she returns to her musical roots from the Svært at være gudinde album with an added funky, saturated, and living sound featuring a broad instrumentation that is reminiscent of artists such as Phil Spector, Sonny & Cher, Doris Day, and American TV shows from the 70s.

On Soy Maria, she has joined forces with musical friends and creative forces from Copenhagen, as well as producer and multi-musician Carsten Skov and guitarist Hannibal Gustafsson, who are also on the songwriting team.

'The title song Soy Maria (I Am Maria) was written on a band trip to Spain, where we had been invited to jam with a local mambo band, and I was sold on the idea. The joy, party, and warmth of the mambo have always struck me and helped shape the album. The songs contain those ingredients. I am sure they will rub off on anyone who hears them',  Maria Montell says about her new album.

Soy Maria contains seven new and original songs, a re-recording of Hard Candy written with Billy Steinberg and Rick Nowels, and a Spanish rendition of the title song.
