Watch jazz in the cinema
Towards the end of Aarhus Jazz Festival 2018, you can nurse you Sunday hangover with jazz movies in Øst for Paradis. The cinema devotes the entire day, Sunday 22 July, to jazz experiences on the big screen, presenting musical, visual, and different jazz films.
The first movie includes a croissant and free drip coffee, which will be served at 12 noon.
Cool Cats (2015)
This documentary and feature film is about the adventures of jazz legends Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster during the 1960s in Copenhagen: women, drugs, and full-blown jazz music in a swinging tale from a (jazz) time gone by.
Cool Cats is the story of how Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon found human breathing room from the racial discrimination and drug problems of their home country. At the same time, the two saxophone equilibrists started a musical avalanche, which turned Copenhagen and, in particular, the venue Montmartre into a major European jazz attraction.
Through well-produced archive material, which also includes Ben Webster's own footage of his time in Copenhagen, the movie documents how our own little metropolis developed and was changed by two of the greatest jazz icons with all the female acquaintances, friendships, benders, drugs, and, of course, cool jazz, which it entails.
