Arthur Lea Bootleg Trio (UK)

Pat Levetts eget orkester “The Coalminers” spiller New Orleans-funk og -soul.

The sound of street parades adjusted for a piano trio

Arthur Leas Bootleg Trio is the rhythmic core of the neo-soul band Bootleg Brass.

Arthur Lea has been pounding honky-tonk rhythms on the piano ever since he was tall enough to reach the keys. In conjunction with his piano playing, he sings a mix of rhythm & blues with a soul that's buried deep in the American South.

Arthur Lea is inspired by brass bands and pianists from New Orleans and mixes in urban gumbo from London's ever flourishing and creative music scene.

In early 2012, he toured the USA to get to the bottom of the music from zydeco to bluegrass, following the trail from Louisiana to Nashville. This resulted in the solo EP Wandering Story. In 2015, the EP At Home appeared with five songs about life in London.

Christopher Barrett is active on the London scene as a musician, bandleader, poet, and electronic tuba pioneer. He made it to the top of the UK charts with the release Glitterball with singer Ella Henderson (X-Factor UK 2012). He has performed with London Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Arts Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Paul’s Orpheus Sinfonia, Oakland Symphony, Pentagon Brass, Mimika Ensemble, Brassroots, Phil Meadows, and Sons of Kemet. His work as a composer has been performed at London Jazz Festival and live on BBC Radio 3 with his own bad Phaze Theory.

Drummer Pat Levett graduated from Guildhall School of Music in 1999 and has performed with the likes of Liane Carroll, Tom Jones, The James Taylor Quartet, Tim Minchin, The Ronnie Scotts All Stars, Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), Earl Thomas, Paddy Milner, 24 Pesos, The Puppini Sisters, Sandi Thom, and Bernard Purdie. Pat Levett's own band The Coalminers play New Orleans funk and Soul. He also plays the mouth organ and has been featured as a soloist on two releases with Will Grove-White from The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.

Arthur Lea will be playing a solo set at Lunch Jazz in the Bispejazz tent Monday 16 July at 12.30 pm.

Thanks to The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus for the use of their C-tuba for this concert.
