Indra (DK)

Titelsangen er albummets første nummer, og umiddelbart komme man tro, at der er tale om en gammel spiritual, når Indra synger åbningslinjerne: ”Oh Lord / love you so / you have my heart / oh, hope that you will / love my sister also.”

Bønnen om frelse og kærlighed er universel, men gradvist bliver det tydeligt, at sangen også er forankret i vores egen turbulente tid med en bøn for ”the one who walks across / border to border and is turned away / the one who bears a child across the ocean / just to be / saved.”

So, you’re carrying your heart across the world. Så det ses. Det var meget enkelt.”

A universal prayer for love and salvation

When the American singer Indra Rios-Moore began her life in Denmark with her husband, saxophonist Benjamin Trærup, it was the beginning of a musical adventure.

In 2010, the critically acclaimed album Indra was released, carried by a trio with Indra's characteristic vocal, Thomas Sejthen's down-to-earth bass, and Benjamin Trærup's lyrical sax. The trio is still at the core of Indra's personal universe, but is often supplemented with a fourth member, guitarist Uffe Steen.

The follow-up album, In Between, reaped awards for best vocal release at the Danish Music Awards Jazz in 2012, after which the band really took off.

In 2015, the album Heartland was released on the legendary jazz label Impulse. Indra achieved her international breakthrough with the album and the British newspaper The Telegraph placed it on its list of best jazz albums of 2015.

Now, the time has come for the follow-up Carry My Heart. The title track is the first song of the album, and the opening lines are reminiscent of an old spiritual, as Indra sings: 'Oh Lord / love you so / you have my heart / oh, hope that you will / love my sister also.'

The prayer for salvation and love is universal, but it gradually becomes clear that the song refers to our turbulent times with a prayer for: 'the one who walks across / border to border and is turned away / the one who bears a child across the ocean / just to be / saved.'

The mentioning of the woman who carries her child is related to the message of the album: 'Carry my heart ... , one carries a child, heart on one's sleeve. So, you're carrying your heart across the world. So it is seen. It was quite simple'.
