Aarhus Jazz Orchestra hosts Ridehuset Swings for the 30th consecutive year – a four-day event with music, food and community in and around Ridehuset in Aarhus. And it begins today.
In 2019, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra hosts Ridehuset Swings for the 30th consecutive year – a four-day event with music, food and community in and around Ridehuset in Aarhus.
Ridehuset Swings began in 1990 through a desire to spread jazz music to a wider audience. Back then, the band was called Klüvers Bigband and was led by Jens Klüver. Much has happened since then, but the basic setup remains the same: Ridehuset Swings is four days of fantastic concerts, international soloists, an informal setting and free admission.
Over the years, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra has performed in Ridehuset with a numerous of the greatest jazz icons of our time: Carmen Bradford (US), Deborah Brown (US), Marie Bergman (SE), Kurt Elling (US), Cæcilie Norby, Jesper Thilo, Dennis Mackrel (US), Terrel Stafford (US), Dave Samuels (US) and many more. In 2002, the band celebrated its 25th anniversary, when Jens Klüver received the honourable Ben Webster Prize. Jens Klüver stepped down as bandleader in 2012.
Since then, Ridehuset Swings has provided the framework for a number of concerts with jazz encountering other genres and cultures. World-class ethnic jazz has been presented with headliners such as Brazilian Big Band Nights, Flamenco Big Band Nights and African Big Band Nights - and with soloists such as Joca Perpignan (BR), Perico Sambeat (ES) and Julian Argüelles (UK).
For Ridehuset Swinger 2019 - Cuban BigBang Nights, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra plays four concerts with the award-winning Cuban-American composer and drum virtuoso Dafnis Prieto. He brings two childhood friends from Havana on stage with him: Eliel Lazo (percussion) and Yasser Pino (bass).
In addition to the evening concerts, there will be a diverse afternoon programme including DR Big Band, TipToe BigBand, Camilla Dayyani Group and – as something completely new - food will be served at Masvino Vinbodega.
The event begin today, Wednesday, July 17, and goes on the next four days until Saturday, July 20. Check out the program and the many concerts here.
