Would you like to broaden your horizons and hear jazz in new ways? So there is plenty to get started on for this year's festival. The program offers lots of concerts that break the boundaries and give you a completely new musical experience
There are plenty of opportunities to send your ears on wild adventures during this year’s festival. We offer plenty of jazz that pushes the boundaries and lets you experience something new. At Aarhus Jazz Festival, you can be sure to find plenty of concerts where the musicians’ playfulness and experimentation is turned up to the max. This year, you can visit Turkis on Sunday, July 14, where Maria Dybbro and her band Caktus will be joined by the Norwegian band Ojkos. A total of 15 musicians will take the stage for a sensuous and grand concert featuring Ojkos’ energy and variegated sounds.
Over the years, Sydhavnen has become a kind of headquarters for the experimental corner of Aarhus Jazz Festival. Here you’ll find Papirlageret, which offers a wide range of concerts during the week with the likes of Lotte Anker, Kresten Osgood, and Røysum. At Det 3. Rum, there will be concerts from Monday to Wednesday. Here you can experience Jeppe Zeeberg and the Absolute Pinnacle of Human Achievement. It’s an experimental, funky post-postmodernist punk jazz hybrid with a rock’n’roll attitude. In the concert with the band JUMP, you will experience three improvisational musicians combining classical music, electro-pop, avant-garde music, and jazz in a shared narrative.
On Thursday, Share Improfest takes over down at Sydhavnen. A number of European and Danish musicians meet every day in new constellationsnand create brand new music. In the evening, they present their concoction in Wahlberg Studio, which, with its many mysterious rooms and machines, is a perfect setting for alternative music and unique experiences.
This year, like last year, there will also be a unique improvisation marathon with the musicians from Share’s improvisation party in Aarhus Cathedral. It is on Friday, you can take a seat in the church.. You can also do this in Langenæskirken, which is a brand new venue for the festival. Here you can experience a concert with percussionist Marylin Mazur’s trio as well as Langenæskirken’s new organist Olga Witte, winner of the prestigious Gaffelprisen award. There are also experimental adventures for your ears in A-Huset at Institut for X behind Godsbanen, at Erlings Jazz- og Ølbar, and several other places in the jazz festival program.
