The history of Aarhus jazz

Last year, Aarhus Jazz Festival started a project that focused on the city’s jazz history, beginning with the period 1919 – 1949. 

In collaboration with Carsten Ljungkvist, author of the book Jazzens historie i Århus (The history of jazz in Aarhus), we will look at the many places, people, and bands that influenced the jazz scene throughout the years.

In 2018, we examine the period 1950 - 1979, which includes stories about the bars and venues Tagskægget, Karavellen, Saratoga Jazzklub, Bent J, and much more.
