Extroverted and groovy power jazz.
Martin Vollertsen is a promising new name on the Aarhus jazz scene. The 22-year-old pianist and composer recently formed his own quintet and is now ready to present his music to Danish jazz audiences.
The style is extroverted, groovy power jazz with catchy melodies and great energy. Martin Vollertsen's music is inspired by Charlie Mingus, Herbie Hancock and Israeli Omer Avital, with a strong rhythmic foundation and memorable themes.
The quintet, which consists of students from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, is tight, seasoned, and contains some exciting new soloists, such as trumpet player Niels Munk Petersen, saxophonist Jonathan Schou, and Martin Vollertsen himself.
Martin Vollertsen Kvintet debuted in the early summer in front of a full house at Ambassasden, Aarhus. Their ambition is to tour Denmark with their music, which appeals to jazz geeks and a wider audience in search of a new challenge.
