Magnus Hjorth (p), Jens Jefsen (b)
Two generations of jazz collaborate in a new duo. In 2012, Jens Jefsen played with the young pianist Magnus Hjorth for the first time and decided to see him again for a second round. In 2016, they made contact and initiated a collaboration as a duo, trio, and quartet. Magnus Hjorth was born and raised in Laholm on Sweden's west coast. He started his professional career in 1991, went to the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, and formed his own trio in 2006. In 2007, Magnus Hjorth participated in the large international jazz competition Getxo Jazz with the quartet People Are Machines and was awarded Best Soloist by the judges and audience. He is a busy sideman and has recorded alongside Chris Potter, DR Big Band, Marius Neset Golden Xplosion, Mads la Cour Im Beruf, Sidsel Storm Band, Malene Mortensen Band, and others. Jens Jefsen is a popular bass player mainly focused on jazz. Jens Jefsen, whose sound is characteristically lyrical, played in the 70s and 80s with many American jazz icons, such as Dexter Gordon, Charlie Chavers, Ben Webster, Slide Hampton, Johnny Griffin, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge and Harry "Sweets" Edison. Jens Jefsen has also performed with several trendsetting Danish bands and artists for more than 40 years, and has released nine solo albums, most recently A Secret Sigh in 2016.
