A true musical Mardi Gras. Both name and music stem from the musical melting pot New Orleans. There, Gumbo Ya-Ya! means something along the lines of 'everybody is always talking' and is an expression of collective improvisation. Aarhus' musicians are particularly well-versed in this discipline. In this case, Gumbo Ya-Ya! is a common term for six Aarhus-based musicians about to deliver a true musical Mardi Gras on stage with funky intuition. Gumbo Ya-Ya! was founded in 2014, made their debut at Smukfest 2015, and were nominated at the Danish Blues Challenge and Møblomania Blues Award that same year. The band has toured most Denmark in a matter of short time, including the legendary venue Operaen in Christiania at the Freetown's 44-year birthday. Their experience and spark also stem from having performed with some of Denmark's biggest New Orleans artist, such as Ole "Fessor" Lindgreen, Johan Bylling Lang og Mads, despite the low average age in the band. Led by a sax and trombone, with a rock solid rhythm section, upbeat boogie piano, and a frontman who knows how to start a party, Gumbo Ya-Ya! guarantees a true musical Mardi Gras. Gumbo Ya-Ya! is inspired by artists such as Dr. John, Jon Cleary, The Meters, Jazz Five, and SP Just Frost, whose arrangements are presented with a rare feeling and explosiveness. The band has slowly started writing their own materials, which are heavily influenced by their influences, but with an added edge that makes Gumbo Ya-Ya! so unique.
