Dunia & CALIBUT BAND share stage and musicians for an evening of outstanding world music. Dunia – 1. part Diversity and improvisation are the key concepts of Dunia with many different cultural and musical elements involved: from Cuba to Kabul, from the Middle East to Romania, and from Skagen to Gedser. Morten Carlsen and Dunia add new elements to world music. The band creates soundscapes with pulsating and complex rhythms. A series of new compositions by the band members take audiences on a magnificent journey. They live in Denmark, have international careers, and are famous for many musical acts. Thus, Dunia contains a broad palette of timbres: a trombone with a history of Cuban pop music is met by the Northern Indian tabla and Romanian cimbalom. The Syrian oud delivers a fine contrast to the brass section, just like the bass and percussion rhythms range from Arabian pop music, to open soundscapes and African dance beats. Music for hearts and feet. Shake, move, and let your ears marvel. CALIBUT BAND – 2. part. Romanian-born George Mihalache took the initiative to form CALIBUT BAND. The band also consists of Simon Don Eriksen from Denmark, Swedish-Turkish Ruhi Erdogan, Jonathan Ahlbom from Sweden, and Morten Lind from Denmark. Geroge Mihalache carefully selected the members for their superior attitude, their unique ability to immersive themselves in their music while they perform, as well as their passion for their work. The five musicians form a special constellation based on gypsy music and traditional Eastern European folk music from Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, and former Yugoslavia. According to CALIBUT BAND, their music does not have a single country of origin but many. Like wandering gypsies, CALIBUT brings their audience along on a lively and fiery musical journey with daring instrumental combinations. CALIBUT plays dance music with harmonica, cimbalon, trumpet, tuba, and clarinet, and creates a special, energetic experience. With soulful and melodious harmonies, the nerve and melancholy of gypsy music comes alive. The project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
