A musical mission with a crew of seven.
The critically acclaimed composer and saxophonist Jacob Danielsen takes off again. This time with his most ambitious and personal project to date, RaketSeptet.
The music press has called him 'one of the country's tenors most worth listening to', and Jacob Danielsen has been active on the Danish jazz scene as a composer, musician, and arranger for years. He is best known for the trio Admiral Awesome, whose debut album was nominated for a Danish Music Award in the category 'New jazz artist of the year'. Their second album Makeout music for modern lover was hailed listed on Best of 2015 from the respected jazz magazine The New York City Jazz Record.
With RaketSeptet, Jacob Danielsen presents a constellation that has not been seen before in Denmark. A star team of seven of the top musicians in the genre, and with compositions written especially for this band. The crew consists of saxophone / clarinet, trumpet / horn, trombone and tuba, guitar, double bass, and drums. The tuba, in particular, opens up new possibilities in terms of sound.
Inspired by older bands such as George Russell Sextet, Charles Mingus Band, Ok Nok Kongo, and Yunkan 10, Jacob Danielsen seeks out new sounds, melodies and rhythmical peculiarities.
With an ear for tradition and a strong belief that this type of jazz music is still in a vital development phase, Danielsen pays tribute to the old masters. It is a time where many people do not listen to music anymore, and instead, use the radio as background noise, and where brand choreography, and merchandise makes more noise than the instruments. Thus, Jacob Danielsen wants to highlight the human factor in music and bring it back as an artform and emotional catalyst.
He hopes to complete his mission by putting music in a place where ordinary music consumer, jazz aficionados, art music lovers, and hardcore avant-garde freaks can listen along and have a great time.
