A group of prominent young musicians from the Aarhus jazz scene have formed a new band and will play compositions by the saxophonist Johannes Gammelgaard.
The music has been written from small poetic texts that describe the familiar feelings of a relationship. The sound of the Danish folk high school is mixed with the wild energy of free jazz in a strong and original expression that is both personal and generally human.
Johannes Gammelgaard currently lives in Stockholm where he studies jazz at Kungliga Musikhögskolan. He has studied in Aarhus, Hamburg, and Helsinki, which as inspired his many musical experiments. He has already made a name for himself as a composer and saxophonist in the band Horn Please!, which plays world music inspired by 'far' musical cultures such as Indian and South African.
In this band, he looks inwards, focuses on his own musical background, and writes text and music that describes his everyday life.
