Revisiting a popular jazz guest
Not many contemporary musicians have succeeded in filling the vacuum left by Sidney Bechet, the great soprano saxophonist from New Orleans, who spent much of his career in France.
Luckily we have a virtuoso in Denmark who knows his way around the iconic instrument. Henning Munk Plum handles the soprano sax and, occasionally, the clarinet in a convincing manner and has been a treasured guest in clubs and festival with his Plumper. This includes Aarhus Jazzklub, who, coincidentally, have had the pleasure multiple times during the launch of the annual Christmas beer.
The bandleader is challenged by a new member, saxophonist Nis Toxværd, who has been featured in numerous jazz, blues, funk, soul and rock projects.
The Øresund Region is represented by the banjo playing professor from Lund in Sweden, Björn Ekman, who also takes care of the curious vocal bits.
Bass player Marc Davis is a particularly busy musician in Greater Copenhagen.
Plumberne's drummer Henning Toxværd mans a drum kit that can allegedly be traced all the way back to the infancy of jazz.
Do not believe everything you hear, but it is safe to say that this quintet will fire up the 30th editions of Aarhus Jazz Festival with style.
