Improvisation that pushes the envelope

Hej Johannes pushes the envelope as an improv duo that focuses on conversation, attentiveness, and interest in each other's themes and ideas.

For the last four years, the two young musicians have been working together in different constellations, including in Johannes Gammelgaard's octet Johannes Gammelgaards ABC, who recently released an album, and formed the duo Hej Johannes in 2014. 

The simplicity of the duo format contains great freedom and great responsibility, as the soundscape can quickly become both naked and fragile.

At the same time, fragility is what makes the duo format so exciting as it forces musicians to position themselves and be accountable.

Hej Johannes was in the studio in February 2018 recording a debut album, which is set to release this fall.

Two-day improv festival at COLABS

The Community, Knud's Kiosk and COLABS host a two / day festival filled with acoustic experimental music and improvisation. 

Two nights of community, intimacy, intensity, creativity, power, fragility, expression, rawness, lack of compromise, and beauty.

The Community is an international collective of improv musicians working towards connecting and expanding the network of improvisers and musicians around the world by hosting concerts, workshops, camps, and interactive events.

We believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of diversity and freedom of expression in music and life.

The Community was founded in 2014 by Nana Pi and Mia Dyberg. The events are now primarily organised by Mia Dyberg, Nana Pi, Maria Dybbro, Jonathan Aardestrup, and Asger Thomsen with help from The Community’s members. Their activities primarily take place in Berlin, Copenhagen, and Aarhus.
