From dusty country ballads to ostinato-based improv

'I Just Came From the Moon has a homogenous and powerful personal expression that enables the unpredictable and focuses on communication.

It ranges from the deeply personal and fragile to the universal and challenging with strong solo performances and well-crafted compositions that draw the listener into an organic and lyrical world.'

Those were the jury's words when I Just Came From the Moon won Ung Jazz 2016 at a sold-out Jazzhouse. Roughly one year later, the band released its debut album Hoax on the Aarhus-based label Jaeger Community Music (I Think You're Awesome and others).

The album encapsulates a collective musical trend that includes everything from dusty country ballads to ostinato-based improvisational soundscapes. 

Since winning Ung Jazz, the band has performed several prominent concerts around the country, including at DR Koncerthuset, the legendary Montmartre, Alive Festival in Thy, Modern Jazz Days in Køge, and at the big jazz festivals in Aarhus and Copenhagen.

The album has also been well-received by the Danish and international press, and DR P8-Jazz has played several tracks on the airwaves.

Thus, Hoax has not just been a sharp proof-of-concept of a unique sound that incorporates and expands on the compositions of Frederik Hagner, but has also firmly established the band's position on the new instrumental music scene.

The band is currently working on a bunch of new material that will centre on a joint process of composing that includes the band's aesthetics, ideals, and references to an even higher degree. The music will be presented at two shows in 2018 and two or three live videos from the band's new year's concert at A-Huset in Aarhus at the end of 2017.

The Community is an international collective of improv musicians working towards connecting and expanding the network of improvisers and musicians around the world by hosting concerts, workshops, camps, and interactive events.

We believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of diversity and freedom of expression in music and life.

The Community was founded in 2014 by Nana Pi and Mia Dyberg. The events are now primarily organised by Mia Dyberg, Nana Pi, Maria Dybbro, Jonathan Aardestrup, and Asger Thomsen with help from The Community’s members. Their activities primarily take place in Berlin, Copenhagen, and Aarhus.
