Swinging traditional jazz
Arosia has received several music and culture awards for their many years of service on Danish jazz stages, including Aarhus County's culture award and 'Fatterprisen' from the Danish Musicians Union.
In 2008, the band celebrated its 50-year anniversary with a big concert at Musikhuset Aarhus and the release of a a 50-year anniversary CD. Arosia has released quite the record collection with three LPs and nine CDs.
Though Arosia was formed in 1958, the band has been revitalised with two new sheet music-reading members: Frank Pedersen on drums and Jesper Carlsen on bass. This lowered the band's average age with two-and-a-half years.
Younger or not, Arosia still plays youthful swinging traditional jazz. A wonderful mix of original tunes (in Aarhusian) by the band's in-house composer (trombone legend Botha Christensen), jazz standards from the repertoires of Duke Ellington, Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton, as well as newer tunes.
The always cheerful ringleader Per Vindum introduces the tunes with humour and high spirits.
