Skt. Pauls Band (DK)
The swinging nursing home
The jazz festival's last band at Bispetorvet is a significant institution: Skt. Pauls Band - The Swinging Nursing Home, The Living Aarhus Jazz Museum.
This Aarhus seniors big band has many names and plays swinging instrumental and vocal big band arrangements by Peder Pedersen under the leadership of H.C. Vartenberg.
Peter Pedersen used to lead Peder Pedersens Big Band, who for many years used to be the house band of the jazz club Tagskægget in Aarhus with a weekly performance - often with American star soloists.
Apart from arranging, Peder Pedersen also conducts some tunes and is a member of the trombone group where he plays the valve trombone.
The level of skill is high. The lineup counts several recipients of the prestigious Gaffelpris award.
The music is primarily from the American swing repertoire from the 1930s and 40s back when men were men and the girls liked it!
Since Skt. Pauls Band was established in 2002, the band has played concerts at Aarhus Festuge, Aarhus Jazz Festival, Randers Festuge, Odder Festuge, Musikhuset Aarhus, Djurslands Jazzklub in Grenaa, Hotel Ebeltoft Strand, Horsens, on the Faroe Islands, and at Tunø Festival and Østersø Jazz Festival on Bornholm.
