Cubop feat. Al Agami (DK)
Groovy Latino and Cuban salsa for jazz lovers with salsa in the blood
CasaV58 opens the Jazz Festival with Al Agami and the large band Cubop. Salsa beat is presented in melodious jazz and funk themes through a mix of groovy bass and piano figures with a salsa dance feeling.
Al Agami has played with Cubop several times as a guest soloist. He is known as a rapper and has both performed as a solo artist and participated in many performances with big Danish names and various projects. He has received a Grammy for his first solo album as this year's Danish rap/dance release.
Cubop means Cuban Bebop and comes from the style of music Dizzie Gillespie created in the 40s, mixing mixed Afro-Cuban music with jazz and bebop.
Cubop plays its own arrangements of jazz, pop and fun classics with songs by Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Maceo Parker in the repertoire. The orchestra has performed in packed venues at Copenhagen Jazzhouse, Vega, Studenterhuset, Park Café and Malmö Jazz Festival.
