Americana and folk-jazz
Bill Frisell's career as a guitarist and composer spans more than 40 years with many successful recordings, which Downbeat has declared "the best recorded output of the decade." The most recent release from 2018 Music IS was a long-anticipated solo record.
Frisell has long been appreciated as one of the most original guitar improvisers and is known for mixing familiar themes into his improvisations. He has won several awards throughout his career and was the first artist to be commissioned by FreshGrass Composition Commission to work on the conservation and support of "grass root" music.
It is obvious why Bill Frisell chose Thomas Morgan and Rudy Royston for the trio format. The two musicians are always ready for a spontaneous musical journey with Frisell. Both musicians have a deep understanding and sense of his compositions and of the pop, folk and jazz standards that he also likes to cover.
The trio's method is interactive and conversational and surprises the audience at every show.
Bass player Thomas Morgan is a true improvisator and high-caliber bass player, whose sublime playing style has been heard domestically at concerts and on recordings with the likes of Jakob Bro, Søren Kjærgaard and Jakob Buchanans Lamentation.
Drummer Rudy Royston prefers to play freely and may sound like Jack DeJohnette and Roy Hanes in a head-on collision with Dennis Chambers. Royston's broad percussion background and unique imagination equip him with a great palette of sound, color, rhythm and power.
The concert is part of the celebration 100 years of jazz in Aarhus and is carried out with support from the William Demant Foundation, the CAC Foundation and the Nordea Foundation "We support good living".
