Good melodies and attentive improvisation
Farbror is a new trio on the Danish jazz scene. Here, saxophonist Johannes Gammelgaard gets together with two long-time collaborators: Jens Mikkel Madsen on double bass and Johannes Berg on drums. Together, they play original compositions that mix good melodies and catchy baselines with attentive improvisation.
The three musicians know each other from previous collaborations, not least the octet Johannes Gammelgaards ABC. Now, they have formed a trio from a desire for greater freedom and movement in the ensemble - and let's see what happens in terms of new musical routes, short cuts and detours.
The name Farbror is taken from Sweden, where it is commonly used about an older gentleman, often with somewhat dubious humour, a bit like the Danish "onkel".
