Peter Vuust Quartet feat. Veronica Mortensen (DK)
Jazz with heart and mind. Nordic, melancholic - but far from sad
Peter Vuust is the unique combination of a deeply respected musician and a world-class neuroscientist in the field of Music In The Brain. He is known for his groovy and responsive backing as well as an extremely melodious solo play, and as a composer and bassist, he has released six albums of his own.
He brings the irresistible and top-focused Veronica Mortensen - one of our best singers - who has a warm and straightforward approach to jazz. Her voice is effortless and relaxed, and she has posses a unique presence in her delivery.
The collaboration between Peter Vuust Quartet and Veronica Mortensen has turned into many concerts over the years as well as the release of three CDs, one of which, September Songs (2013), was nominated for a DMA in the Danish vocal jazz category.
On the latest album Leaves of Love (autumn 2017), Vuust has once again written music for lyrics by the Norwegian poet Roy-Frode Løvland. The CD explores and unfolds the Nordic sounds, which is characterised by a special form of melancholy, where sad songs do not necessarily have to make us sad; on the contrary, they can help us through difficult times.
