A poetic contribution to the Nordic jazz scene
Balvig/Bülow/Christensen started as musical playmates six years ago. The goal was to explore jazz and improvisation. This resulted in an extremely strong ensemble with a unique band sound.
The trio's debut album Associated With Water has been highly acclaimed, including by London Jazz News and Raidió Teilifís Éireann, (Ireland's National Public Service Broadcaster).
The music moves fluently from jazz and classical to folklore and is a poetic contribution to the Nordic jazz scene. It features emotional impressionist colours, Balkan-inspired bass parts, modern jazz themes, and, sometimes, Chopin-like rubato moments.
Finding a new jazz direction is a main focus of this trio. To develop new, small "islands" of musical ingenuity and interaction as well as subtle poetic and energetic improvisation choices that fit the given composition in an unpretentious manner.
