The best of the hardbop era

The quintet plays music from the 1950s and 60s, where the fast and complicated bebop was mixed with the blues and soul music.

The repertoire spans the band's favorite tunes by Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson and Lee Morgan.

The musicians are all prominent actors on the Danish jazz scene and have played with prominent artists such as Thomas Morgan, Indra, Butch Lacy, Uffe Steen and the DR Big Band.

In 2015, Jakob Sørensen published the debut album Bagland (2015). That same year, he received the award for North Jutland jazz act of the year and was nominated for a Danish Music Award. In 2016, the follow-up NOMAD was released. The title track formed the basis for him becoming the New Danish Jazz Name of the Year in 2017.

Rasmus Sørensen grew up in North Jutland, where he, as a nine-year-old, began playing the piano. After high school, he moved to Sweden in 2016 to study jazz at Skurups Folkhögskola. Since August 2018, he has lived in New York City and has toured Russia, the United States, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden and Norway.

Thomas Sejthen is one of the busiest bassists in Denmark. With his rock-solid style and great love for the music, he is often found on stages at home and abroad with artists such as Uffe Steen Trio, Indra and Admiral Awesome. Thomas Sejthen is an important part of the Aarhus jazz scene.

Johannes Gammelgaard is a young, promising saxophonist and composer who, with inspiration from jazz, world music and Danish song tradition, has developed a very personal expression. He lives in Stockholm and is active on the city's jazz scene. He has toured Scandinavia, most recently with the improvisation duo Hej Johannes. In the fall of 2017, he released his debut album with octet Johannes Gammelgaard's ABC.

Drummer Daniel Sommer has been involved in a wide range of publications ranging from minimalist avant-garde to swinging straight ahead. He also recently released his first critically-acclaimed record as a solo artist, Duets.
