A city walk with the theme: 100 years of jazz in Aarhus

Join in an exciting city walk focusing on the local jazz history and see a lot of the places where jazz is playing here and now - and where jazz has been played over the years since it came to town just after World War I.

Hear about the great international, national and local names that have helped make Aarhus a jazz city over time.

And learn about Aarhus Jazz Festival, which this year takes place for the 31st time: How it all started, how the festival has developed over the years and what continues to make it a very special annual event.

Along the way, we pass by many legendary venues, some of which are closed, others have survived, and many new ones have been added. Thus, we cover about half of the 45 venues, which fill the city with almost 380 jazz concerts and events during this year's edition of Aarhus Jazz Festival.

Learn about the various venues, and hear some of the many fun stories and anecdotes that have always characterized the colorful jazz scene.

Along the way, you will get a little wiser about the 100-year history of jazz in Aarhus, which Aarhus Jazz Festival will focus on this year. Likewise, you get some suggestions on which of the jazz week's concerts you should not miss, Last and not least, you get to learn something about the exciting and vibrant city where jazz is unfolding.

The tour begins at the Bispejazz scene at Bispetorvet and ends – depending on the wishes of the participants – the same place or at another nearby venue a few hours later. Here, there will be the opportunity to wash down the information with gorgeous jazz tones and maybe a beer or a glass of wine.

Your guide on the trip is Carl Ancher Pedersen, who has a good knowledge of both jazz, the jazz festival and the city. In addition to being the editor of the jazz festival program, he is also a guide with Aarhus Guides and Aarhus Explorers, who are co-organizers of the trip.
