Playfully spiritual, poetic and anarchic music

Spirit is free jazz at its best. The feet are firmly planted in American free jazz as we know it from Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman, but there is also an unmistakable Scandinavian tone to the music.

Bo Jacobsen joined the legendary orchestra Blue Sun, where he used to play drums. In Spirit, he mainly plays alto saxophone but also revisits the drums from time to time.

Since 2011, the band has released three acclaimed albums, the most recent Northern Spirit receiving a distinguished Honorable Mention in the New York City Jazz Record as one of the best releases of 2019.

In addition to the bandleader, the crew consists of outstanding musicians. Swedish multi-instrumentalist Bebe Risenfors has played and recorded with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, and others, and released several CDs

Drummer Kresten Osgood has been setting trends on the Danish jazz scene since the '00s, and has played with a sea of ​​jazz greats, including Sam Rivers, John Tchicai, Paul Bley, and Phil Woods.

Bass player Niels Præstholm has released albums with his own brands and also has a long resume as a sideman with international jazz artists such as Richard Boone, John Tchicai, and Kenny Drew.
