Two exciting solo acts

For Sommerjazz 2020, Aarhus Jazz Festival presents a concert series with Solo, Duo, Trio, and Quartet in the beautiful interior of Aarhus Cathedral.

The first concert in the series will feature two exciting solo acts with newly released records.

Kasper Tranberg
For more than two decades, trumpet player, cornetist, composer, and orchestra leader Kasper Tranberg has been a prominent figure on the domestic and international music scene.

His voluminous resume bears witness to a diligent and open approach to music, which has led him to numerous bands and constellations where his heartfelt playing has been noted.

Kasper Tranberg is a member of leading bands in Europe and Japan. He has released 10 albums, and performed and recorded with Marc Ducret, Tyshawn Sorey, Jesper Zeuthen, Jacob Anderskov, and Tim Berne, as well as released two albums with Yusef Lateef.

At this concert, Kasper Tranberg plays music from his current solo album Suite Dilation, which is the final chapter of a trilogy following the two releases Strawboss for sextets and Terzet with his regular trio.

In the bare solo format, Tranberg works with the essence of his sound and melodic improvisations in the four compositions that form the basis of the entire Suite Dilation trilogy. Anchored in his personal sound, his vision of developing a deep dialogue with his instrument, the composed material, and the improvisational instinct burns.

Christian Windfeld
Since 2013, the Aarhus-based percussionist, composer, and improvisational musician Christian Windfeld has under the artist name FIRST PERSONNEL developed a strong personal expression in his acoustic percussion pieces.

The compositions are often location-specific and shaped by the place's history, acoustics, and audio atmosphere, which he most recently demonstrated on this year's release Mermaid's Cave / Cockatoo Island.

In 2015, he received the Danish Arts Foundation's two-year scholarship “The Young Elite” and he has toured with his music in North America, Australia, and Europe. At the Jazz Festival in 2019, this could be experienced at a critically acclaimed concert in the rotunda in the Memorial Park, which took place at 6 in the morning.

All concerts in Aarhus Cathedral are conducted according to the regulations of the authorities and with a distance between the audience.
