Swinging concert for children

Basie For Børn is a tribute to the iconic American composer and bandleader Count Basie with a burning desire to convey the timeless, beautiful, and entertaining music he created during his career.

Count Basie's music and band created a movement in the music scene that the world had never seen before, thus creating a foundation and inspiration for musicians in the 1930s and 40s.

Basie was always known to be a childish soul, which was clearly reflected in his music. Therefore, we cannot think of a better audience to present his music to than children and accompanying adults.

Look forward to a swinging children's concert full of fun and high spirits as Basie for Børn plays music and tells stories about the legendary American bandleader.

All members of the band also sing in the style of how big bands like Count Basie's and Jimmie Lunceford's during the 1930s.

The band consists of some of the finest young jazz musicians on the contemporary Danish jazz scene.

The alto saxophonist Oilly Wallace has played with nearly everyone on the Danish jazz scene from DR Bigband to Carsten Dahl and Thomas Blachmann. He was nominated for the DMA Award "New Jazz Name of the Year" in 2016 and is also the winner of both the Bent Jædig award and the Piano-prisen award.

At the piano, we find Zier Romme, who has been a soloist with DR Big Band and played with big names in both Europe and the US such as Rodney Green, Paulo Fresu, and Alvin Queen.

Bassist Matthias Petri is one of the busiest sidemen in Denmark while leading the band Prism with American star musicians such as Ralph Moore and Eric Reed.

Behind the drums sits Malte Arndal, who has played with leading international artists such as Jakob Dinesen, Christian Sands, Bent Rosengren, and Ethan Iverson and has played at prestige jazz clubs around the world such as Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, La Bellevilloise, Jazz House Montmartre, and Birdland Jazz Club.

Event information
Instead of the usual children's jazz concerts at Bispetorvet and Dokk1 during the Aarhus Jazz Festival, this year will include two concerts at Helsingør Theater, The Old City, namely Klezmer Duo 12 / 7 at. 10.30 am and Basie For Kids 16 / 7 at. 2.00 pm.

Due to Covid-19, it has not been possible to create a children's program to the same extent as during a normal festival, but we are still happy to include good music for children and the young at heart during Summer Jazz 2020.

The concerts in Helsingør Theater, The Old Town, are performed according to the regulations of the authorities and with a distance between the audience. Therefore, there will be fewer seats than usual. Book your ticket in advance to secure a seat.
