Two big vocals and a big band in top shape open Aarhus Jazz Festival

Experience Aarhus Jazz Orchestra in a unique musical encounter with Caroline Henderson and Steen Jørgensen as they open the Aarhus Jazz Festival in Musikhuset with a concert that unites the great big band sound with Caroline Henderson's crisp voice and Steen Jørgensen's deep sound.

With Nikolai Bøgelund at the helm, the audience will experience a big band in top shape as they embark on a musical journey through Caroline Henderson and Steen Jørgensen's impressive backlog spiced with some of the great jazz hits from music history.

Steen Jørgensen, who is known from Sort Sol, released the solo project Standards for Living in 2013, after which he has toured with guitarist Rune Kjeldsen across the nation's venues. The repertoire is a mixture of songs from Steen Jørgensen's own solo career, Sort Sol songs, and bold interpretations of artists such as Dylan, Young, Cohen, Joy Division, and Kraftwerk. In addition to this, Jørgensen has run the successful side project Ginman / Jørgensen, and has appeared in various films and plays.

Over the years, Caroline Henderson has distinguished herself as one of the strongest singers in recent Danish music history with a musical expression that draws inspiration in both jazz, blues, pop, and electronic notes. Henderson's artistic prowess is impressive, with a career ranging from award-winning record releases, massive radio hits, critically acclaimed concerts, and sold-out tours to film and television appearances, as well as acclaimed roles in theater concerts.

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra is a professional big band consisting of some of the best musicians on the Danish jazz scene. Over the years, the band has worked with some of the greatest jazz icons of our time, including Kurt Elling, John Scofield, Peter Erskine, Jamie Cullum, David Sanborn, Melody Gardot, Geir Lysne, David Liebman, and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
