A true musical melting pot

Horse Orchestra consists of musicians from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland who play a fusion of traditional jazz, hip-hop, noise, baroque, and free improvisation – all presented with a fiery rock'n'roll attitude.

The band is a testament to a new generation in Nordic jazz, who have mastered their musical history while managing to open up the music to a much wider audience.

20s New Orleans meets the free jazz of the 60s mixed with hip hop – with detours into rock and Renaissance music – creating an original, humorous, post-modern expression that reaches far beyond jazz music.

For Horse Orchestra, humor is as important as instrumental balance and compelling compositions. As a result, listeners are treated to a humorous and joyful musical feast that is so infectious that they are happy to be drawn into the group's often extreme sonic experiments.

The band's first album Living the Dream (2014) won two awards at the Danish Music Awards, with the justification:

The band consists of young musicians who have no respect for convention. They do exactly what they want without regard for what other musicians do. They can throw themselves into a New Orleans composition from the 1920s one moment and Chicago jazz from the 1960s the next, and play both styles with equal conviction – while adding a personal and original touch to the music.

Horse Orchestra has subsequently released the album Four Letter Word (2016), Video EP 2018 (2018), and the album The Milkman Cometh (2021). The band has performed in Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Germany, England, Serbia, Hong Kong, and China.

"Horse Orchestra is an amazing group who individually and collectively delivers the goods with impressive virtuosity and subtlety."
Berlingske Tidende.

"Living the Dream is a fine and fun introduction to a party band whose performances almost negate Scandinavians' reputation for humorlessness. At the same time, the soloists' strength and the arrangements' sophistication suggest investigating the players' style in less raucous surroundings."
Jazzword.com.

The concert with Horse Orchestra marks the start of the big SHARE Improfest, which runs over the next three days. The concert will be followed by a jam and party.
