Between beauty and violence

Caktus' music is somewhere between the fragile and the strong – the beautiful and the violent – chamber music and grooves. With saxophonist Maria Dybbroe at the helm, the band has already gained a lot of attention with several nominations, publicity in all major media, and a touring schedule with more than 50 concerts across Denmark.

Caktus is close to being a double trio, with two basses and two saxes. This harmony and mirroring leads to themes also being mirrored, turned, twisted, and challenged.

The debut album, Under Solen, was released in September 2020 and was nominated for a Steppeulv for Composer of the Year, received a nomination for Album of the Year at the Danish Music Awards Jazz 2021, and a place on both Passive / Aggressive's and Dagbladet Informations' annual list of the 20 best Danish releases of 2020. A new album is on the way in 2022.

Caktus focuses on acoustic sound and the desire to experiment and improvise in and out of otherwise tight compositions. Formed in Aarhus in 2017, the band members are known for bands like Yune, Køs, The New Family, Bear With Me, Narcosatanicos, Josiah Konder, and I Just Came From the Moon.
