Experience Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra at the concert We are DYJO.

The band has created an original repertoire. Each musician is responsible for choosing, composing, or arranging one song from the setlist. Each song is accompanied by a short narrative or story about why that particular song was chosen. Thus, We are DYJO is a unique opportunity to get close to the bandmembers where they feel most at home: in big band music.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra (DYJO) is an elite youth big band consisting of emerging talents from the region who are on the rise in the Danish jazz scene. It functions both as a permanent big band and as a talent development base in the Central Denmark Region.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra makes room for the wild, quirky, and experimental – but with roots in the traditional. The orchestra is led and conducted by drummer John Riddell.

Despite his young age, John Riddell has already left his mark on the Danish jazz scene with many different soloists and bands. He is a distinctive drummer who in his work with various big bands and orchestras has played with many Danish and international soloists, including Randy Brecker, Andrea Motis, Seamus Blake, Adam Rapa, Teitur, Caro Emerald, Kira Skov, Wycliffe Gordon, Caroline Henderson, Sinne Eeg, and Cæcilie Norby.

If you have visited Ridehuset Swings in the past, you already know to look forward to enjoying community, culinary delights, and great musical experiences – with free admission to most concerts. 

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and Musikhuset Aarhus look forward to welcoming you to Musikhuset Swings, which takes place July 8-15 in the foyer and halls of Musikhuset and at KISSA in Musikhusparken.
