Two Saxophonists Pay Tribute to Jazz Icons

Tough Tenors is a tribute to bands with two saxophonists from the 50s and 60s.

The band plays music by jazz icons such as Duke Ellington, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Hodges, Thelonious Monk, Lee Morgan, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, and Jens Klüver.

Jens Klüver (tenor and alto sax) is the former leader of Klüver's Big Band through 35 years. In recent years, he has devoted himself to working as a jazz musician in duo, trio and quartet formats and has also performed as a soloist and conductor for big bands.

Finn Odderskov (tenor and baritone sax) has been part of the jazz scene in Aarhus since the 1960s. Finn has played as a soloist with orchestras throughout Denmark and as a regular member of Arosia, Bourbon Street, Peder Pedersen's Big Band, Klüvers Big Band, and Sankt Pauls Band.

Esben Tjalve (piano) studied at The Royal Academy of Music in London and has now settled in Aarhus after 17 years in England. Esben has released two CDs with his own international group Red Kite.

Torben Bjørnskov is a versatile bassist who has played with foreign and Danish soloists and groups. He recently released a CD of his own compositions, Human Being Human.

Gustav Hagelskjær is a young drummer who studies at the Royal Academy of Music. Gustav has played with Thirsty Night Big Band and Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra and is co-founder of Kosmos Trio.
