A Juicy Place Between Improvisation and Structure

SVIN is an avant-garde rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark, who have been making their mark on the international music scene since their debut album Heimat in 2011.

After consolidating its current line-up, SVIN released its fifth album Virgin Cuts in 2018. The music draws listeners into a sonic black hole somewhere between noise-infested rock, drone landscapes, new age minimalism, and dusty afro-trips, all while drawing on heavy inspiration from nature, folklore, ceremonial music, and avant-garde.

SVIN has performed at festivals such as Roskilde Festival, Eurosonic, and by:Larm and has toured extensively throughout Europe, Russia, and the Balkans in recent years.

The band is part of the Young Artistic Elite program from 2019-2022, which is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. In 2019, SVIN was commissioned to compose music for the contemporary ensemble Århus Sinfonietta, which was subsequently premiered at Aarhus Festuge, and in January 2022, the music from this commission was released on the album ELEGI.

SVIN's new and seventh album Introducing SVIN expands the trio's bricolage aesthetic by adding a higher degree of electronic elements to the production. The result is a robotic, futuristic sense of man and machine intertwined in a musical universe that is both manually controlled and techno-mechanical.

When the band entered the studio, the new material was more sketchy than before, leaving more to chance and improvisational whimsy during the two sessions with producer Jens Benz (Iceage et al.). New paths were trodden and collaborations initiated with singer Bisse on his twisted mass Bøn and Marie Eline Hansen's calmly trembling voice on the album closer Dødsensangst.

As always, SVIN hits the sweet spot between improvisation and structure, retaining an appropriate amount of elasticity to allow the music to breathe, break and create space for the listener in the weird, abhorrent, and intersectional sounds that make up Introducing SVIN.

"Arguably the best track on the album is the perfectly titled 'Punklort', a messy, dirty and utterly lovable little brat of a song with elephant trumpet and heavily overdriven drums."

"It has taken courage, perseverance, skill, and strength to create Introducing SVIN, which is highly recommended to anyone with a penchant for NIN, Swans, Einstürzende Neubauten, Rob Zombie, Coil, and Neurosis."
