A Tribute to Our Vulnerabilities

With the release of Music for Betty, a new star has entered the Danish jazz scene.

Nana Rashid sings her way into contemporary dilemmas with a new take on classical jazz: about belonging and becoming one's own, the difficulty of love, being a woman, and all the expectations that come with it.

Nana states that Music For Betty is a metaphor for and a tribute to human vulnerability. Where life is lived and inevitable pain is felt. For her, it's the place where music comes from and the human undercurrent that connects us, brings us together and creates closeness and intimacy.

Audiences are met with an honesty and openness that reveals the invisible but tangible bonds that tie people together as a kind of all-encompassing empathy.

It's both intense and soothing. The songs are full of night-time melancholy and contemplation with a raw sincerity that tells the spine-tingling stories of belonging and finding your place in the world.

Gaffa gave the album five out of six stars and wrote:

"Therefore – and as a result of the generally high level throughout – I would dare to call Music for Betty one of the absolute best Danish vocal jazz debut albums in years."

"The opener 'Poor Blue Betty' possesses a smoldering intensity that sets the tone for the entire album." Jazzwise editors choice

"It's a record that, in all its richness, is one of the best things I've heard from a Danish jazz singer in a very long time. It is both classic and contemporary. Highly recommended from here." Jazznyt.

"It's just a fantastic album. Whether accentuated by anger, pathos, or love, Rashid's delivery is enchanting - and so are the songs." The Old Grey Cat.
