Late Night Jazz at Headquarters

At this year's Aarhus Jazz Festival, drummer and jam host Jens Emil Jensen has assembled a team of incredible bass players to lead this year's official Late Night Jazz Jams. In addition to the official jam hosts, you can expect some great surprise guests, including internationally renowned acts, to kick off the various jams with a short opening concert!

Following the opener, the jam continues until 02.00 am or later when all jazzcats are welcome to jam on stage! Here, Danish and international musicians from near and far will meet, come together in new constellations, and form musical parties to the delight of themselves and the audience. Take your instrument under your arm or on your back and join in the musical celebration! Piano, drum kit, guitar and bass amplifier, and microphones are available on stage.

Look forward to late nights filled with beer and drinks, jam on stage, or just sit back and watch Aarhus' vibrant jazz scene unfold as local young jazz talents and established international artists come together in a musical showdown where anything can happen!

At this jam, Jens Emil Jensen (drums) is joined by the amazing bassist Thor Johansen!

Thor Johansen is a Danish double- and electric bassist. After finishing at MGK with teachers as Peter Hansen, Morten Vestergaard, and Thomas Fryland, he continued his jazz studies for four years at the Conservatory in The Hague 2019-23, where he focused on the double bass with guidance from renowned teachers Gulli Gudmundsson, Tony Overwater, Mark Haanstra. Since then he has been part of JongMetropole 2023 playing songs and arrangements of Bill Laurance and Chris Walden in some of the biggest halls of The Netherlands and Germany. Thor's music is inspired by Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, Breaker Brothers, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and Bill Evans Trio. His inspirations reach far and wide, but they all have playfulness with harmony, timbre, and groove as key elements.

Jens Emil Jensen is an up-and-coming jazz drummer and composer living in Aarhus. He recently completed his master's degree “Nordic Master In Jazz”, which also included studies in Helsinki and Stockholm. Jens Emil is a regular jam host and co-founder of Aarhus Jazz Jam, and with almost 100 arranged jazz jams on his resume, you can be sure that the jam is in safe hands! Jens Emil has played with some of the biggest Danish jazz profiles, and his active projects include Bäckström / Friman / Jensen Trio (FI / DK) who are releasing their debut album later this year, and jazz / fusion quintet Odd Pocket with Jens Emil's compositions.
