Swinging Jazz Music and Cartoons
At this year's jazz festival, we present a special family concert with live jazz music inside the cinema and short jazzy films on the screen. Here you can experience 4 animated short films by Jannik Hastrup called Birdland - A History of Jazz, inspired by various musical treasures from jazz history. The films will be shown as part of the concert with Jacob Venndt's Fabulous Swing Trio, who will play music from the history of jazz and the large back catalog of jazzy children's music in Jannik Hastrup's children's films, including Cirkeline, Cykelmyggen of Dansemyggen, War of the Birds, and Benny's Badekar. All delivered at children's level with charm, humor, and great musical energy.
In the film series Birdland - A History of Jazz, Jannik Hastrup covers some classic jazz gems, with visuals that are an excellent example of his unique line and style. Experience a dreamy duet between cat and mouse to the tune of "Dream A Little Dream of Me" by jazz legends Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Witness nocturnal mysteries as Dizzy Gillespie plays "A Night In Tunisia", images of the French capital to Count Basie's orchestral version of "April In Paris", and two birds in love playing on and over the wonderful rainbow as pianist Art Tatum plays the classic "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
Jacob Venndt's Fabulous Swing Trio is an entertaining and seasoned jazz trio with an affinity for golden-age jazz and swing music, as well as deep experience covering songs for children and the young at heart. The band's conductor Jacob Venndt is a multi-instrumentalist and entertainer with a penchant for vocals, bass, and chromatic harmonica. He is joined by pianist Pojken Flensborg and the energetic groove master Per Kolling on drums.
Look forward to this unique fusion of jazz music and cartoons!
The concert is primarily aimed at children aged 5-10 years and their adults.
The concert is a collaboration between Aarhus Jazz Festival and the movie theater Øst For Paradis.
