West Wind in Jazz Format: Ellegaard, Frøland & Knudsen
A new wind is blowing from the west. A wind that will soon be heard and felt all over the country. Whether it's afternoon tea at the harbor, anxiety in the local train crossing desolate landscapes, or Brazilian rhythms with dreams of hammocks and sunshine far away from the gray and rainy streets of Esbjerg, Ellegaard / Frøland / Knudsen paint a vivid and humorous picture of life with the North Sea as a neighbor. The music is a breath of fresh air on the Danish jazz scene, with the three musicians each contributing their take on what jazz sounds like in rugged West Jutland. It's lively and playful, but also heartfelt, nostalgic, and serious when needed.
The trio plays jazz that is rooted in the great American tradition but also draws heavily on the strong Brazilian rhythmic traditions and gives a nod to the Danish songbook.
EFK will release a debut album in the spring of 2025 but has already performed at several local venues, such as Esbjerg Jazz Festival, Termansens, and Esbjerg Bryghus. Ellegaard, Frøland, and Knudsen are all very active musicians in the local jazz scene in Southern and Western Jutland and have played in other contexts at jazz venues and festivals throughout the country.
