Street Parade and Music in the Streets

The 37th edition of Aarhus Jazz Festival will be marked with jazzy sounds in the city streets on the opening day, when the festive Aarhus Jazz Festival Brass Band traditionally marches in the Street Parade through the city center.

The band consists of a young team of musicians who are passionate about old New Orleans jazz. With enthusiasm and great musical energy, they spread joyful sounds wherever they go - and the audience is welcome to tag along.

The repertoire consists of New Orleans classics like "Funky Liza", "Bourbon Street Parade", "When My Dreamboat Comes Home", and many more. So come and experience the jazz spreading through the streets of Aarhus.

Here is the route

The street parade starts at 1 pm at Musikhuset Aarhus and goes through Rådhuspladsen and along Sønder Allé before heading down Strøget to Bispetorvet and Store Torv. Then it goes through Rosengade, Volden, and Graven and ends at Hipsterhøjen around 2 pm. There will be a break here until 2.30 pm, when the parade will resume and go from Graven along Klostergade to Grønnegade, winding back and forth along Vestergade. Then to Lille Torv via Immervad, Frederiksbroen, and up Frederiksgade past Telefontorvet to Strøget, along Sønder Allé and Rådhuspladsen before ending back at Musikhuset Aarhus around 4 pm.

As a prelude to the Street Parade, you can sign up for an exciting and creative workshop for children and families to make stick puppets for the parade. The workshop is led by the art and design duo En Hemmelig Klub and takes place at the Musikhuset from 11 am - 1 pm.
