Young big band plays Brookmeyer

Experience Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra in peak condition as they embark on a repertoire of the legendary big band composer and arranger Bob Brookmeyer.

Bob Brookmeyer is known for his work with The Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra, where he worked as a trombone player, composer, and arranger. He was the chief conductor of DR's Big Band, and his ground-breaking original releases with the New Art Orchestra in the 00s resulted in nine Grammy nominations.

There is good reason to look forward to experiencing the Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra at Ridehuset Swings.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is an elite youth big band consisting of the region's budding talents and rising stars on the Danish jazz scene. The orchestra works as an actual big band as well as as a talent development program, which allows for wild, quirky, and experimental – but rooted traditional.

In collaboration, Aarhus Music School and MGK, The Royal Academy of Music, and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra have created Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra as a new talent development program for young jazz musicians in the Central Jutland Region. The orchestra aims to foster interest in jazz music among young people and further develop the jazz talents who are already interested in big band music. This catalyst provides young musicians with a unique opportunity to get hands-on high-level big band music.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is led and conducted by drummer, composer, arranger, and conductor John Riddell (b. 1995). Despite his young age, Riddell has already left his mark on the Danish jazz scene and has, as a distinctive big band drummer, played with several different bands as well as national and international soloists.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra receives support from the Central Jutland Region, The Royal Academic of Music, Aarhus / Aalborg, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and Aarhus Music School, and is part of Jazzfabrikken – a three-year regional development project that contributes to strengthening the musical supply chain and talent development in rhythmic music.

Thr concert can be experienced at Ridehuset Swings, which also this year is a framework for great musical experiences in a nice atmosphere. Ridehuset Swings is organized by Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
