Blue and funky jazz

For many years, Jakob Elvstrøm has collected music from the funky period of jazz in the 60s and 70s. This music can be described as soul jazz, acid jazz, and lounge.

This afternoon, he presents his collection of hundreds of songs from the time period at ARoS and tops it off with some live saxophone.

He has an in-depth knowledge of the music, as he has played many of the songs with his acid jazz quartet Jakob Elvstrøm Quartet, which was a regular part of the Copenhagen Jazzhouse scene in the 90s.

Although much of the music is 50 years old, it has proven to be extremely sustainable. One of the reasons is that it has been sampled and used in multiple hip-hop tunes. DJs all over the world have also rediscovered the music, and today it is played all over the world.

Jakob Elvstrøm is a very active musician who, among other things, played the saxophone in Aarhus Theater's critically acclaimed production of the David Bowie musical Lazarus in late 2019. (After the corona shut down, the musical will be performed at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen in 2021).

Jakob Elvstrøm is trained at the Rhythmic Department at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus / Aalborg, and has played with some of Denmark's best jazz musicians: Cæcilie Norby, Jesper Thilo, Sigurd Barrett, Kjeld Lauritsen, Uffe Steen, Hugo Rasmussen, Jakob Bro, Lars Jansson (SE), Veronica Mortensen, and many others. He has released five CDs as a solo artist, which have been played on stations such as DR P3, P4, and P8 Jazz.
