What happens when Arabic and Nordic religious and traditional music meets?

Only the language of music can answer that. The folk / roots band JUMA has been exploring this connection for almost five years, and now they are releasing their debut album JUMA.

The Syrian musician Bakri Hemmami came to Denmark in 2015 after fleeing Aleppo in 2013. Like many others, he left everything behind but carried his music every step of the way.

JUMA means mother in Arabic. For the members of the band, it stands for love, embraces, and strength – the idea that we are strongest when we stand together and accept our differences.

For JUMA, the underlying vision is that cultural diversity strengthens societies. The band's goal is that the newly arrived Arab culture can find a place among the existing Danish one.

A concert with JUMA is the experience of this very meeting between two cultures and religions.
