In the Footsteps of Toots Thielemanns

Last year, Toots Thielemans would have turned 100 years old. He lived to be 94 and has had a massive influence on not only the international jazz scene but the world music scene in general.

This band presents music by Toots Thielemans and others.

"Between a smile and a tear" was the legendary Toots Thielemans' characterization of his music in Niels Lan Doky's 2005 film of the same name, and the phrase is a beautiful and poetic explanation of where Thielemans wanted his musical mood to be when he played his harmonica.

This track and Toots Thielemans' seductive and light approach to music form the framework and starting point for this project.

Led by harmonica player and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Venndt, A Trace of Toots traces the chromatic harmonica legend influences on not only Venndt's own harmonica style and compositions but on so many other harmonica players and musicians around the world.
