Dreamy and floating indie jazz
“… The Next Big Thing in Danish jazz!” – writes Niels Overgaard, Jazznyt.
Few bands have been more noticed on the Danish jazz scene over the past few years than I Think You're Awesome.
With bassist and composer Jens Mikkel Madsen in the front, the sextet lets itself be inspired by everything from playful African rhythms to Nordic folk sounds, European improvisation and American songwriting tradition.
The result is an innovative and highly critically acclaimed sound that the band calls indie jazz. Dreamy, floating and in beautiful harmony, I Think You're Awesome moves effortlessly around an atmospheric universe of sound with the ensemble for gravity.
It is jazz that is alluring and relevant to everyone, instrumental stories about everything from books to football, youth memories and the sanctity of community.
In 2019, the band turns 10 years. They have been nominated at DMA Jazz, have been played more than 1000 times on DR P8 Jazz, had nearly 300,000 streams on Spotify, played sold out concerts throughout the country and received the JazznytPrisen-award based on the releases Books and Books Live. They also performed with trad jazz icon Ole "Fessor" Lindgren for P8 Jazz ALive.
2018 saw the release of the album Kiss Your Darlings, which has shown new sides of the band and the musicians, who experienced their musical upbringing together and who over the last few years have established themselves as some of the most exciting musicians we have here in Denmark today, individually and as a band.
The band has promised a bang of a concert seasoned with guest soloists.
Taïga String Quartet and vocalist Thomas Madsen are now revealed as guest musicians at the concert.
The concert is part of the event series 100 years of jazz in Aarhus and is supported by the William Demant Foundation, the CAC Fonden and the Nordea Foundation "We support good living".
