Playful and seasoned trio jazz

Over the years, Peter Vuust and Mads Bærentzen have played countless concerts together. This afternoon, they will be accompanied by Peter's son Mikkel Vuust on drums. A close-knit and playful concert with a mix of standards and own compositions can be expected.

As the man behind the keys in the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, Mads Bærentzen has for many years positioned himself as one of the top Danish jazz pianists. Since the formation of his own trio, Mads Bærentzen Trio, he has released a number of albums in collaboration with bassist Morten Ramsbøll and drummer Kristian Leth. Mads Bærentzen released his first solo album in 2012 followed by 2015's Natten er så stille, featuring renditions of a number of songs by composer C. E. F. Weyse. Over the years, he has played with a large number of big jazz names such as Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Cæcilie Norby, and Chris Minh Doky.

Peter Vuust is a professor at Aarhus University and the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg, head of the Center for Music in the Brain, and is also one of the country's busiest sidemen. He has been featured on more than 90 records, including with several international jazz stars such as Tim Hagans, Mal Waldron, Ted Curson, and Jukkis Uotila. He is known for his groovy and responsive backing and extremely melodic solo playing. As a composer and bassist, he has released six albums, most recently the CD Leaves of Love featuring Lars Jansson (p), Veronica Mortensen (voc), and Peter Asplund (trp).

At just 22, Mikkel Vuust is one of the great talents on the Danish jazz scene and has already performed with the likes of Jakob Fisher, Uffe Steen, Henrik Gunde, and Sinne Eeg.
