Jonas Kullhammar (sax), Ole Morten Vågan (b), Kresten Osgood (drm)
The band brings together three unusually gifted musicians from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark in a modern jazz group with an unusual mix of improvisation, impossible compositions, and poetry slam. Despite the liberated approach and contemporary rendition of the saxophone trio's sound, the music is deeply rooted in jazz traditions.
Jonas Kullhammar is an award-winning Swedish saxophonist and has since his debut in 2000 impressed with his own groups and as a widely featured sideman. Add in Norwegian bassist Ole Morten Vågan and Danish drummer Kresten Osgood who are also known for their personal styles in many different contexts. Now you have a recipe for a terrific concert night.
The group has released two albums on Jonas Kullhammar's record company Moserobie.
The concert is part of the series The Iconic Saxophone at Aarhus Jazz Festival 2021.
The concert series pays tribute to an instrument that has been an important part of jazz music since the beginning, having fostered legendary musicians such as Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Yusef Lateef, and Charlie Parker.
The Iconic Saxophone is supported by The Knud Højgaard Foundation, CAC Foundation, Aarhus Stiftstidende Foundation, Gangsted Foundation, Danish Arts Foundation, and Aarhus Municipality.
